In 2003, Bishop Stephen Blaire had a dream to provide underserved students in the Diocese of Stockton an opportunity for a Catholic education. To realize his dream, Bishop Blaire invited the Young Men's Institute (YMI) to help establish an independent, nonprofit organization to fund need-based scholarships that would make Catholic schools a possibility for many rather than a privilege for a few. Under the leadership of the Young Men's Institute, SEEDS was established to plant Catholic education in the lives of students across the diocese.
Over the years, SEEDS has grown and been instrumental in Growing Faith through Student Scholarships. Since 2004, SEEDS has allocated over $3.8 million in scholarships, serving over 4100 students and over 2800 families.
